I blame Ravelry and The Yarn Underground.
Last January I saw an adorable pattern for owl hats on Ravelry. Soon after The Yarn Underground had an amazing sale on bulky yarn. Next thing I know, I had two large shopping baskets full of Baby Alpaca Grande and was trying to figure out how I was going to get it all home. (Luckily, a fellow knitter came to my rescue and offered me a ride. Thanks, Dawn!)
To justify my impulsivity (is that a word?), I’ll be using my stash of Baby Alpaca Grande to make animal hats for Animals of the Night, an annual fundraiser in support of the Palouse-Clearwater Environmental Institute‘s stellar education programs.

For this year’s event on Friday, October 24th, I made three owl hats using the “Owl Be There” pattern by Lauren Riker. The Baby Alpaca Grande is a little lighter in weight than what the pattern calls for, so I had to make some minor adjustments to the pattern for each size. Congratulations to the winners of these hats! I hope you enjoy them!
P.S. I plan on making animal hats for PCEI’s 2015 Animals of the Night event. I’m thinking a family of raccoon hats but other suggestions are welcome!
